The Full Story
We are a Muslim family that moved to New York state from Texas. We are forever being asked "why", as in why would you move from Texas to New York. Although it has been a challenge to get used to the winters, and differences in culture we have found it to be overall very pleasant.
WHERE IS THE HALAL?

What we immediately found difficult was the limited availability of Halal outside of bigger towns. And the higher prices for meats especially goat. We also noted a different taste with the goat meat. We did some general inquiries with many people and research over a couple of years and learned this:

-
Most of the goat meat found in New York comes from out of country; such as New Zealand
-
The slaughter occurs in those countries and is frozen before a long transport
-
Large commercial slaughter facilities, even those claiming Halal, are not complying with all of the tenants of Halal
-
Regional domestic facilities are not complying with all of the tenants of Halal
-
Very few items designated as Halal are actually 3rd party certified as Halal
-
United States Dept of Agriculture (USDA) doesn't recognize HALAL as valuable (we were told that by USDA)
-
New York facilities (restaurants, grocery stores, farms, etc) rarely get 3rd party Halal certified
-
And very rarely do the markets comply with New York State Halal regulations

HALAL IS MORE THAN JUST PROPER SLAUGHTER

So the idea of our farm & ranch is that it could fill the gap of providing local Halal meats at a reasonable (lowest possible) price. We would provide a true Halal facility that followed the guidelines from beginning to end.
